was informed that 63% of malaysian students fail science and mathematics due to poor command of english. and thus, government is lowering the standard of the syllabus by reverting the medium from english to malay so that the rural students can curb? oh purleesss.....what about the urban students? they have to follow and degrade themselves along with the rural students?
if students fail the two subjects because they are weak in english, the ministry should find ways to help them improve say by giving training to the teachers or hiring qualified teachers from overseas and not lower down the standard.instead, make english a compulsory subject to pass in major examinations so that the students are aware of its importance and try to improve their command in english so that they are on par with urban students. urban students should not be victimised to slow down and wait for the rural students to catch up. rural students should work hard to chase after the urban students though it may be struggling. this is the sacrifice the rural students have to give in order to win the game. or else, malaysians will become like taiwanese. no offence but this is what i've observed.a typical taiwanese cant pronounce simple word like perfume. learning another language especially english which is the international language does not mean we have to abandon our mother language. being able to learn another language is a bonus for us. most of the books on science and mathematics are published in english and even if the subjects were to be in malay, most terms are quite similar to english so i dont understand why students can understand science in malay but not in english? bullshit!
